WESLEYAN ACADEMY ALUMNUS RECEIVES GRANT FOR INVESTIGATIONS

WESLEYAN ACADEMY ALUMNI, DR. ROBERTO I. MELENDEZ APONTE, PROFESSOR AT THE UPR SCHOOL OF MEDICINE OF ANATOMY AND NEUROBIOLOGY, HAS RECIEVED THE PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH GRANT FOR $1,687,000 TO CONTINUE INVESTIGATIONS IN ALCOHOL ADDICTION PREVENTION AMONG ADOLESCENTS.

Dr. Meléndez earned his PHD in Psychobiology and is an alumnus of Wesleyan Academy. Dr. María Sosa, Director of Anatomy and Neurobiology at the UPR School of medicine noted that though UPR professors have received this grant previously, Dr. Meléndez and another colleague are young investigators and have received this award early on their career.


Since 2012, Dr. Meléndez has worked with the organization JOVENES DE PUERTO RICO EN RIESGO, offering orientations and workshops.
